Data centres and computer systems are just about as sensitive to conventional extinguishing agents as they are to the flames themselves. Using an extinguishing agent that does not attack the electrical components is essential.

A quenching gas that leaves no residue in server rooms is therefore used in practice.

Smoke suction systems are deployed for early smoke detection. Fire detectors on the ceilings, in the equipment and in the false floors recognise flames and smoke, reporting to the control unit which in turn triggers the alarm and releases the extinguishing agent.

A non-toxic quenching gas can be used if persons may be present in the server room. This means the advance warning time that is otherwise required can be eliminated.

A gas extinguishing system not only protects the equipment; the data stored on the computers are safe as well.

Protecting the entire room is not necessarily required for the fire protection of individual machines and equipment. In large industrial facilities in particular, the financial cost can be kept far lower with a smaller system.

Fire fighting takes place automatically and locally on the protected object only. The technology is effectively adapted to the requirements.
